The theme for this year’s celebrations was: ‘WORKING TOGETHER, BOUNCING BACK BETTER’.
The Krowor Municipal Assembly (KroMA) celebrated its own Ghana’s 65th Independence Anniversary at the Nungua Town Park on Sunday, 6th March, 2022. Schools and pupils in the municipality formed contingents on the marching grounds. They wowed audiences with spectacular performances. Some schools in the municipality to grace the occasion were Nungua KroMA 2 JHS, Great St Peters Anglican 1 JHS, Nungua SDA High School, Nungua Methodist 2 JHS, Nungua Senior School, Nautical Goodwill and others.
In attendance to the function were the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Joshua Nii Bortey, Member of Parliament for Krowor, Hon. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Frederick Akitty, Presiding Member of the Assembly, Hon. Nii Afotey Botwe II, Municipal Education Director, Ms. Justina Djabah, Heads of Security Services, Hon. Assembly Members and Unit Committee Members, and invited guests present.
The Special Independence Day prayers was said by Judah Borketey from Anglican 2 JHS, Abdul Hafiz Abdulai from Methodist 1 JHS and Yvonne Dami from KroMA 6 Primary. Inspection of Parade was done by Hon. Joshua Nii Bortey, Ms. Justina Djabah and Divisional Commander, Chief Supt. A. Asamoah-Frimpong. The cultural display was performed by KroMA 4 JHS.
In her speech, the Municipal Education Director, Ms. Justina Djabah welcomed everyone to the gathering. She thanked everyone for making this anniversary a success. Ms. Djabah outlined measures put in place by the government to address pertinent issues concerning the education sector. One of these measures introduced is the Radio learning program set up during the Covid 19 pandemic to help school children with their studies. The other is teachers having to undergo training of the New Teaching Curriculum and the introduction of new technologies. She also tasked community leaders and parents to help children with their studies. She ended her speech by thanking Hon. Joshua Nii Bortey and Hon. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey for their immense contribution to the educational sector in the municipality.
The Member of Parliament for Krowor, Hon. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey was next to give her speech. She began by saying Ghana and Krowor had come a long way. She further congratulated teachers and schools for a wonderful parade. She suggested that leaders in the community work hand in hand to build a stronger Krowor and that this is the only way for the municipality to develop.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Krowor, Hon. Joshua Nii Bortey also welcomed the gathering and invited guests. He congratulated the school children and teachers for their wonderful performances. He said the Nungua Astro turf is starting and will be completed when the country celebrates her next independence anniversary. He advised that the indigenes of the municipality have to change their attitudes concerning issues of the environment.
He stated emphatically that he is on top of developmental issues in the municipality. He added that he is committed to drive home visions of the President, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo. He ended his speech by thanking the community and assuring them of taking Nungua to new heights.
