Currently, the Department has staff strength of twenty one (21). The Municipal Agric Director, who heads the Department, five (5) field supervisors, who provides supervisory and technical backstopping services; seven (7) Agricultural Extension Agents, an accountant, six (6) NABCO trainees and two (2) NSP. The AEAs and NABCOs conduct home and farm visits during which improved/proven agricultural technologies are extended to beneficiary farmers. They also carry out on-farm demonstrations and field days. Improved technologies cover subject areas such as correct use of agrochemicals, pest/disease recognition, prevention and control, mushroom production, vegetable production, soil fertility improvement and management techniques, meat hygiene, Animal nutrition, rabbit and grass-cutter production, improve housing for animals, pig production and management, soya utilization and improved irrigation technologies.

Functions/responsibilities/activities carried out by the unit or Department (this may be supported with picture if any)
The Department is involved in various activities such as ensuring food safety in the district, assisting farmers in the diagnosing of farm related problems and providing solutions, information on farm inputs, credit support and marketing. We train farmers on the use of improved /proven technologies in crop and animal production while providing veterinary interventions and preventive treatments. The unit also ensures the coordination, implementation and participation of women farmers especially in all planned activities.
Projects and trainings
Some trainings and workshops organized include:
- Training women youth groups and physically challenged in fresh fruit juice preparation, packaging and labelling as an alternative livelihood venture.
- Training women and youth farmers on climate smart agriculture to mitigate the effect of climate change.
- Train AEAs and farmers on the production, health and marketing strategies of mini livestock.
- Training for farmers on the identification of the outbreaks of diseases such as bird flu, ASF, Rabies and PPR.
- Training of fish processors on food to food fortification to enhance nutrition
- Training for farmers/households on home gardening

The Department of Agriculture encourages all women and youth who are already into farming or yet to enter into this venture and have no contact with any agricultural extension officer to come to the office for any necessary information/enquires/ advice and we will be willing to assist.
