A brief profile about the department or unit:
Environmental sanitation is an essential factor contributing to the health, productivity and welfare of the people of Ghana. An essential component of health service delivery and it was identified in Ghana’s program of economic and social development set out in vision 2020 as a key element underlying health and human development.
Vision, Mission and Objectives of the department or Unit:
The vision of the environmental health and sanitation unit is to ensure clean, safe and healthy environment in all human settlement.
Mission:
Promote the social, economic and physical well-being of complementary activities, including the construction and maintenance of sanitary infrastructure, the provision of services, public education, community and individual action, regulation and legislation
Objectives:
- To Ensure the development and maintenance of a clean, safe and pleasant physical environment in all human settlement
- To promote social, economic and physical wellbeing of all sections of the population
Functions/responsibilities/activities carried out by the Unit or Department
- Collection and sanitary disposal of wastes including solid wastes, liquid wastes, excreta, industrial waste, health care hazardous substances.
- Storm water drainage
- Control of pest and vectors of disease
- Food hygiene
- Environmental Sanitation education
- Inspect & Enforcement of sanitary regulations
- Disposal of the Dead
- Control of rearing and Straying of animals
- Activities within the department/unit should be updated quarterly
