The Krowor Municipal Assembly is one of the newly created Assemblies in the Greater Accra Region with its capital being Nungua. The Assembly was established by the Local Government Act, 2016 (Act 936) with Legislative Instrument (2316). It was created to further enhance and facilitate grassroot decision making and development through effective administration and development planning. It was officially inaugurated on 15th March 2018.
Krowor Municipal Assembly (Nungua) has since become one of the 261 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana and among the Twenty-Nine (29) MMDAs in the Greater Accra Region. It was carved out from Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipal Assembly (LEKMA) in November 2017.
The Municipal Assembly currently has two zonal councils (Krowor North and Krowor South Zonal Councils) which operate under the Assembly’s structure.
The General Assembly including the Municipal Chief Executive has a membership of Nineteen (19) comprising Twelve Elected Assembly Members, Six (6) Government Appointees and One (1) Elected Member of Parliament. The Municipal Chief Executive who was Appointed by the President and approved by the General Assembly happen to be the political head of the municipality and the municipal coordinating director is the Administrative head.
