THE 37TH FARMERS’ DAY CELEBRATIONS OF KROWOR MUNICIPALITY

The 37th edition of the Farmers’ Day Celebrations of the Krowor Municipal Assembly took place on Friday 3rd December, 2021 at the Nungua Bus Terminal.

The theme for this year’s celebrations is; ‘Planting for Food and Jobs- Consolidating Food System in Ghana’. This was carefully chosen to demonstrate consistency in good initiation and implementation. 

The program was held to honour and reward the hardworking farmers and fisher-folks who had distinguished themselves and untiringly worked day and night to ensure that we all have food on our tables.

The august program was graced by a representative of the Paramount Chief of the Nungua Traditional Area, King Prof. Odaifio Welentsi III, the High Priest of Nungua, Nuumo Gborbu Wulomo, Municipal Chief Executive of Krowor, Hon. Joshua Nii Bortey, Member of Parliament for Krowor, Hon. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Municipal Coordinating Director for the Assembly, Mr Frederick Akitty, Municipal Agric Director, Mrs. Elizabeth Tapang-Tettey, Management and Staff of the Assembly and distinguished invited guests.

The introduction of the Chairperson and the Chairperson’s response was immediately followed by a cultural display by the Destiny Cultural Group from Nungua.

There was a welcoming address said by Mrs. Elizabeth Tapang-Tettey, Municipal Agric Director and followed by brief remarks by the Member of Parliament for Krowor, Hon. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey. She stressed that she would do her best to improve the agricultural needs of the constituency.

The farmers’ day address was delivered by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Joshua Nii Bortey. He saluted all the farmers and fisher-folks for standing tall among others and also being the pillars upon which the national economy was anchored. He further stressed that the Krowor Municipal Assembly with the support of the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council passed and gazetted its Bye-Laws for the greening and cleaning of frontage of premises. This program is dubbed- ‘Operation Clean Your Frontage’.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Krowor ended his address by congratulating the farmers and fisher-folks especially the award winners.

A 41 year old man was adjudged the Best Farmer in this year’s celebrations. Mr. Zakary Abus, a native of Bawku in the Upper East Region received a brand new tricycle motor, knapsack sprayer, 10 cutlasses and other items as his award.

In conclusion, 13 people were awarded for their various contributions towards the sustainability of agriculture and the local economy.
