NATIONAL CHILDREN’S DAY 2024

The Social welfare and Community Development unit of the Krowor Municipal Assembly, Nungua on the 13th September 2024 hosted the National Children’s Day celebration at Nungua Presby Cluster of schools. Participants arrived and registered between 10 and 11am.

The opening prayer was given by the Chief Imam of Nungua – Imam Mohammed Tijani Swalah.

The Special Guests were introduced and the welcome Address was given by the Krowor Municipal Assembly Education Director, Mr. Azeriga Ayariga.

A cultural performance was then given by the Centre for national Culture followed by a community engagement on harmful cultural practices. This was done by the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, Krowor Municipal Assembly. Particularly by Linda Tandoh and Cynthia Kotey. They educated the community on ritual servitude and child marriage. The children and dignitaries gave their opinions on the above-mentioned topics and how best to curb such practices.

A drama on behavior change sensitization was displayed by the Center for National Culture.

At around 12:30pm, another Community engagement was done by the Domestic Violence Unit’s Betty Adu Darko. The education was on the children being able to report anything violent on them. They were educated to be bold to go to the Police station to report whatever violence anyone is inflicting on them. The department gave the children a toll-free number ie.0800111222 to call on the department as an alternative if they can’t go to the Police Station to make a report.

Before the program came to an end, a statement of Commitment was given by the Nungua Akwashongtse- Nii Akwei Dankwah IV. He gave a bold commitment on the Assembly going to stand firm to ensure the rights of the children in the municipality through them as the Traditional and religious leaders. He said they will take into consideration the needs and views of the children for them to grow up to be useful citizens in the Assembly and the nation as a whole. The Chief Imam for Nungua, also gave his statement of commitment.

At 12:45 pm, the head of department for the Social Welfare and Community Development Unit Madam Priscilla Febiri gave the vote of thanks on behalf of the Assembly and, staff and all guests present.

Mr. Arhin gave the closing prayer followed with a photo session by all participants/guests.
