

On Wednesday, 2nd April 2025, the Department of Social Welfare from the Krowor Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with the Ministry for Gender, Children and Social Protection and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Krowor, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, who also serves as the Minister of State in Charge of Gender, Children and Social Protection convened a meeting with beneficiaries of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) program. This event was held at the forecourt of the Agricultural Development Bank in the Krowor Municipality.
The occasion saw in attendance the MP for Krowor, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Municipal Coordinating Director, Madam Jemima Apedo Kallikrates, Traditional leaders, a delegation from the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Staff from Krowor Municipal Assembly, representatives from the Kpeshie Divisional Police Headquarters and the beneficiaries. The meeting aimed at facilitating the smooth disbursement of funds to LEAP beneficiaries, ensuring that financial assistance reaches the vulnerable. The program prioritizes extremely poor and vulnerable households particularly, orphaned and vulnerable children, persons with severe disabilities, elderly persons aged 65 and above and extremely poor or vulnerable households with pregnant women and mothers with infants.
During her address, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey announced an increment in the payment cycle for beneficiaries as follows; GHS 512.00 for one eligible member households, GHS 608.00 for two eligible member households, GHS 704 for three eligible member households and GHS 848.00 for four eligible member households. She emphasized that these funds would be disbursed in a timely manner to ensure that all beneficiaries receive the necessary financial support and further admonished the beneficiaries to put the funds to good use.
Funds were disbursed efficiently through a designated payment service provider which is the Agricultural Development Bank, allowing beneficiaries to access their grants via electronic payment or designated pay points depending on their location and individual circumstances. Additionally, the Department of Social Welfare announced plans for a re-registration exercise to ensure that all eligible individuals who have not yet been registered can be included in the program. This initiative is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to expand coverage and eradicate poverty within vulnerable communities.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the government’s commitment to supporting the most disadvantaged members of society through the LEAP program. Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey reiterated the importance of timely payments and continuous engagement with stakeholders to improve the program’s efficiency, whereas the Department of Social Welfare, the Ministry for Gender and the Krowor Municipal Assembly remain committed to enhancing social protection measures to uplift the livelihoods of vulnerable households in the Krowor Municipality and beyond.
