MUNICIPAL CHIEF EXECUTIVE TOURS ABDANDONED SCHOOL PROJECT IN NUNGUA ZONGO

As part of his inspection tour within the Nungua enclave, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Ing. Paul Afotey Quaye, accompanied by key leaders and officials visited the abandoned two-storey, six-unit classroom block located in the Nungua Zongo community. This event occurred on Friday, 9th May 2025.

Present during the visit were the Municipal Coordinating Director, Madam Jemima Apedo Kallikrates, Hon. Robert Okoe Odiko, the Presiding Member for Krowor, Mr. Ayariga from the Education Directorate, Hon. Sadia, government appointee, Hon. Ken, Assembly Member for Nkpor electoral area, Municipal Chief Imam, Ing. Yankson and Ing. Larbi from the Works Department and Leaders from the Zongo community.

In a keynote address, the MCE acknowledged the urgent need for a school in the area, stressing that the educational facility remains a critical priority for the Nungua Zongo community. He reiterated that the project aligns with the President’s broader agenda to “Reset Ghana”, and pledged on behalf of the President to address the community’s pressing needs starting with the completion of the school. Hon. Afotey Quaye also clarified that no contractor had been forcibly removed from the site. Rather, the contractor voluntarily abandoned the project.

The project which commenced in June 2019was originally scheduled for completion by December 2020, however, as of the last briefing, only 40% of the work had been completed. Due to the contractor’s stated unwillingness to continue, the MCE assured the community that the project would be repackaged and re-awarded to ensure its completion.  He emphasized the administration’s commitment to seeing the project through to the end.

Following the briefing, the MCE was led by the Works Department to inspect the current state of the construction and assess the actual progress made on the ground.
