The Krowor Municipal Assembly, on 11th February 2025, in collaboration with Latenu Radio 96.1 hosted an informative radio program aimed at educating the residents of Nungua and its surrounding areas about the Right to Information Act, 2019 (989). Miss. Edem Abla Afari, the RTI Officer, facilitated the session, providing listeners with essential knowledge about their rights to access public information under the RTI Act.
The radio program was designed to inform the public about the provisions of the RTI Act and how it promotes transparency and accountability within government and public institutions. Miss Afari provided an in-depth explanation of the context and purpose of the Act, underscoring its role in ensuring that government entities are open and responsive to the needs of the people. A key segment of the program focused on how residents can access information through formal requests, emphasizing the importance of written requests for information and explained that public institutions are required to respond within a set timeframe. During the discussion, listeners were given the opportunity to interact and ask questions. Many residents called in expressing their appreciation for the clarity of Information provided and their new found understanding of how to use RTI Act to request vital information. They also expressed a commitment to using the Act in their interactions with local government agencies, reinforcing the value of this tool in advocating for better governance and community development. As the residents of Nungua and the surrounding areas continue to embrace their rights under the RTI Act, this educational program marks a pivotal step in creating a more informed, active and accountable citizenry.
